OK I have said this before - I am a flashy Drummer (I.E. stick twirling, throwing sticks, etc...) However my playing style is more like Phil Rudd I have listened to some ac/dc cds that he is on and 1 in particular has NOT one fill on the whole dang cd!!! Now would you rather have a drummer who keeps great time and doesnt do alot of fills BUT is VERY dedicated to the band, or a drummer who just plain kicks ass but quits in 3 weeks? Would you show loyalty to the PLAIN drummer? Once you are successful others that are better are bound to come out of the woodwork wanting to play!

here's the thing ,drummers and bass players are the most important part of any band , So that being said...fills and flash are great if that's what your into but that doesn't make a kick ass drummer.great timing and setting a groove and pocket are the important thing , ..so to answer your question i rather have the straight drummer with great timing behind me.That's why when i look for drummer i have them play gospel or funk,no fills straight groove...ya dig

Speaking as a drummer myself, I reckon the groove is EVERYTHING. Fills are just adornment, if you're timekeeping's shit then your fills count for nothing.

I've encountered many a drummer that'z flashy az hell, twirling stickz and what not but can't even keep fucking time. I'd rather have a boring drummer behind the kit who couldn't twirl a stick for shit but could keep excellent time and added great fillz etc than a drummer that did nothing but show off behind the kit that sounded like he was building a fucking shed.

<font size="3" face="Arial">LMFAO - Building a shed? hehe. I guess that I was saying that I am flashy with my sticks but my playing is kinda, well, normal. There are lots of drummers that are better - I CANT solo at all - but I am really dedicated to a band once I get into it. I have a new lease on life now and can spend time trying to make great music with someone. I might even travel to Canada one day *nudge nudge Spin Dizzy* heh! I just paid the most sought after drum teacher around here for lessons to get my chops up - $100.00 an hour (and YES, he is THAT good of a teacher!) I am gonna blow some minds soon! When I get my chops up - I am hitting the road AGAIN! I am pissed about FINK! Moved my WHOLE freekin life 1500 miles and they give up! WTF???

Soloing izn't everything you know... it'z how tight you are when playing songz in a band that really matterz if you ask me. I personally hate drum soloz, i find them boring. Oh yeah sure playing flashy with the stickz iz also great IF the drummer can keep the frigging time and iz an all round good tight drummer, but otherwise, like i said, i'd take timing and tightness over flashy stick twirling any day so i could end up with a drummer behind the kit that just sat there with a face sweeping the beer stainz off the floor and it wouldn't bother me az long az hiz actual drumming was good.

And building a shed yeah. I've had a few shed builderz in my time... what a fooking racket

Again, I offer this question. Isn't there a machine you can buy that does exactly the same thing as a drummer can (sometimes more) and you don't have to feed or pay it??? lol

<font size="3" face="Arial">not entirely true, it depends who the drummer is.
